Prior to that, it had been known as Brown County.
Today, Milwaukee County is both the most populous and most densely populated county in Wisconsin, even though it is the third-smallest county in the state by land area. Only 20% of Milwaukee County is land; the remaining 80% consists of water from several rivers. It is the only Wisconsin county that is completely incorporated, and serves as the home to two professional sports teams, the Bucks (NBA) and Brewers (MLB).
