Racine County was founded in 1836 as part of the Wisconsin Territory. Prior to the arrival of European settlers, it was home to the Potawatomi tribe. It originally extended south to the Wisconsin border until Kenosha County was split off in 1850.
Located alongside Lake Michigan in the southeastern corner of the state, Racine County is just 25 miles south of Milwaukee and 60 miles north of Chicago. The fifth-most populous county in Wisconsin features attractions for the whole family, including the Racine Zoo, Wind Point Lighthouse, breweries, wineries, and a number of buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, including the SC Johnson Administration Building — the largest commercial project the famed architect ever designed.
